How the Word Frequency Counter works

Words are extracted with Unicode awareness, so accented and non-Latin words count correctly and contractions like don't stay in one piece. The table shows each word, its count and its percentage of the total.

Use the filters to focus on meaningful words: skip common function words, skip numbers, or set a minimum length. Switch the format to CSV to paste the results straight into a spreadsheet.

When it is useful

  • •Finding the keywords that dominate an article for an SEO check.
  • •Analyzing interview transcripts or survey comments.
  • •Studying vocabulary in a text for language learning.
  • •Spotting words you overuse in a manuscript.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the count case sensitive?

Not by default. Ignore case is on, so The and the are counted together. Turn it off to count them separately.

What does share mean?

The percentage of all counted words that this word accounts for. If filters remove words, the share is relative to the remaining ones.

Can I see a visual version?

Yes. The Word Cloud Generator draws the same counts as an image.
