How the Word Counter works

The report covers words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs and lines. It also estimates reading time at 238 words per minute, a commonly cited adult silent reading average, and speaking time at 150 words per minute for presentations and videos.

The list of top keywords skips common words and short words, so the terms that remain are the ones your text is about. Words are counted with Unicode awareness, so text in languages with accents counts correctly.

When it is useful

  • •Meeting an essay, article or application word limit.
  • •Keeping social posts, meta descriptions and ad copy within character limits.
  • •Timing a speech or a script.
  • •Finding the main keywords in your own draft.
