How the Duplicate Word Finder works

The tool counts every word, ignoring case if you wish, and lists those that appear more than once, most frequent first. Short words and common function words can be skipped so that the report focuses on content words you may be overusing.

A second pass looks for the same word typed twice in a row, such as the the or is is. These are the typos that spell checkers miss and that readers notice immediately.

When it is useful

  • •Tightening an essay by spotting a word you used eleven times.
  • •Proofreading a long document for accidental double words.
  • •Checking a product description for repeated keywords.
  • •Reviewing a translation for words the translator overused.
