Turn any headline into a tidy, lowercase, hyphenated slug.
The converter transliterates accented letters to plain ones (café becomes cafe), expands special letters such as ß, æ and ø, turns an ampersand into the word and, and replaces every run of other characters with your separator. Lowercasing is on by default because URLs are case sensitive on many servers.
Optional filters drop filler words such as a, the and of to shorten the slug. A maximum length cuts the slug at a word boundary instead of in the middle of a word. Each line is converted separately, so you can slugify a list of titles at once.
Hyphens. Search engines treat hyphens as word separators, while underscores can join words together.
Short enough to read at a glance, usually under 60 characters. Dropping filler words helps without losing meaning.
Characters with no Latin equivalent, such as Chinese or Arabic letters, are removed. Add a Latin transliteration beforehand if you need those words in the slug.
