Turn user_first_name into User First Name, or strip underscores completely.

INPUT

OUTPUT
CHARS: 0WORDS: 0LINES: 0

How the Remove Underscores works

Underscores are replaced with the option you choose: a space, nothing, a hyphen or a dot. Leading and trailing underscores, such as those in private names or dunder methods, can be dropped, and runs of several underscores can be treated as one separator.

Tick capitalize each word to produce a presentable label from a database column or variable. Each line of the input is handled on its own, so you can convert a whole list of identifiers in one step.

When it is useful

  • •Making column names readable for report headings.
  • •Converting file names with underscores into titles.
  • •Cleaning names in a spreadsheet exported from a database.
  • •Preparing identifiers for a URL by switching to hyphens.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from the snake case converter?

The snake case converter creates underscore names. This tool removes them or swaps them for readable separators.

What happens to double underscores?

With the run option on they are treated as a single separator. Turn it off to replace each underscore individually.

Can I change the underscores to camelCase?

Use the camelCase Converter instead, which joins the words and capitalizes each one after the first.
