How the Binary Code Translator works

Text is converted to UTF-8 bytes, and every byte is shown as eight binary digits. An ASCII letter takes one byte, while accented letters take two and many emoji take four, which the tool shows accurately.

To decode, paste binary with or without spaces. Anything other than 0 and 1 is ignored, and if the digit count is not a multiple of eight, you get a clear message instead of garbled output.

When it is useful

  • •Learning how computers store characters.
  • •Solving binary puzzles and capture the flag challenges.
  • •Creating binary themed designs and messages.
  • •Checking how many bytes a string needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

A byte has eight bits. Plain English letters fit in one byte, so each becomes eight digits. Other characters use more bytes.

What is the binary for the letter A?

01000001, which is 65 in decimal. Lowercase a is 01100001, or 97.

Can I convert numbers to binary instead of text?

Use the Number Base Converter to convert numbers between binary, octal, decimal and hexadecimal.
